Connecting a Bluetooth Headset to your Virtual Classroom

Before I begin I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has gotten on WildFire Connect, our virtual coaching platform. Just a reminder, I am available to help you get connected if you are having ANY issues! The bottom line is, the issues are good. In other words, the more we learn about the different devices connecting to this system, the more we can fix those issues and help more people. Please reach out if you need ANYTHING!!

So far so good on the virtual online coaching! For those of you who have logged on, it’s been really cool to be able to see other people, get coached to get better at each movement, AND get your workout in more efficiently! One of many reasons’ classes work well for fitness is how easy it is to get distracted when you are doing it on your own…and I get it. You start the warm up with the best intentions, and then, between kids being home from school, realizing you forgot to vacuum under the coach, or getting that not really very important call or text, halfway through the strength it’s easy for your brain to tell you, “I’ll just do it tomorrow”. And then the next day, then the next, and pretty soon a week goes by and you haven’t done much to stay fit.

The WildFire Connect Virtual Coaching Platform is not only a great answer during this crazy time for our country, it will be a great tool and resource even when things go back to “normal”. Again, this is NEVER going to be able to take the place of getting into the gym and being able to see everyone. If you can still see people working out (and they can see you), get the coaching and motivation you need to stay on point, and be more efficient by having a specific time to get on and get through it, it’s a lot more likely you are going to get it done AND get the most out of it.

Even though we’ve been working on this virtual platform for a while, there are still going to be bugs & technical issues we need to fix. So please, bear with us. If you need any help connecting, we are happy to get with you between classes to get you set up. Also, we are going to have someone available to troubleshoot any issues you may be having connecting during the class. We will make sure you know who to call or message during actual class times.

Finally, at the end of the day, the most important part is getting your fitness in. If you are having trouble with your mic or even a frozen screen (usually due to an unstable internet connection), as long as you can see and hear us and continue to work through it, it’s all good.

Here are a few settings you should know about to enhance your experience. We knew from our initial testing that sound was going to be our biggest issue. There’s really no good way to just leave everyone’s mic on the whole time without having feedback and hearing the background noise. The good news is that we can mute your mic on our end. So, when you login, turn on your mic and keep it on, and we can mute it once we start working and unmute it when we need to hear from you. 

 You can also set up a Bluetooth headset which should help us hear each other better. I will be available between any of the class times to help you get set up and adjust any settings. Below are the instructions. Please feel free to reach out if there’s any way we can help you get set up!

There are 2 ways you can use your Bluetooth headset. The first is as a microphone and speaker, and the second is as a mic only.

For our purposes, the mic is the most important. While most Bluetooth headsets are still going to pick up some background noise, it’s usually a lot better than an open mic on a computer. More than likely we would still mute your mic when we start the work, however, it will help others hear you better in the times between.

To use a Bluetooth headset

For PC users: click the Windows button or Icon > Go to the Settings > Click “Devices” > and finally, click “Add Bluetooth or other device”

On Mac: Open system preferences > Click “Bluetooth”

Follow the instructions to connect your Bluetooth device. Usually something like:
Turn your Bluetooth On on your computer.
Make sure your Bluetooth headphones are ready to pair (Often by holding the power button until it flashes blue and red.
Then, go to “Add Bluetooth or other device”.
Choose the type of device you would like to add (audio or headphones).
Once you see your Bluetooth device, click it to add it to your computer.
Once your Bluetooth device is connected to your computer, go to your Virtual Classroom:
~Once the Classroom is open, Start your Webcam.

~Then, click the Volume down arrow (at the top Left next to “Meeting”)

~Then, click “Select Speaker” and choose the best option for your set up.
(You can either listen to everything through your headset or continue to let it play through your computer.)

~The most important part, go to the Microphone settings (between the speaker and webcam setting in the upper Left) Click the down arrow, and select your Bluetooth device.

~Finish by turning on the microphone and you should be ready to go!

~You can adjust both the Speaker and Microphone Volume in the classroom by clicking the down arrows next to their icons and clicking “Adjust Speaker Volume” and/or “Adjust Microphone Volume”.

That’s it! From there all you have to do is choose your class time, get on, get FIT, and have FUN!!!
