Gymnastics class is just one of the many specialty classes at Wildfire Crossfit. The goal of this class is to work on the skills, strength and proper form for doing gymnastics movements. Athletes all have different goals, regardless of the goal, the skills and drills in this class will allow athletes to improve in a safe and effective manner.
In Crossfit, body-weight movements are considered gymnastics. (e.g. air squat, push-up, pull-up etc.) We take skills from the sport of gymnastics and applying them to workouts. In Crossfit, the gymnastics label is applied to any exercise in which you move your body through a range of motion or extended range of motion without an external load.
Gymnastics is one of the three foundational modalities of Crossfit. If movements are performed properly, they influence every aspect of your and life and have a dramatic effect on your fitness.
One thing we promote is strict form. The focus is to build strength in the movements before adding momentum (kipping/butterly.) Focusing on building strength is key to mastering movements as well as avoiding injury. Strength is required for proper form, and proper form is required to demonstrate body control.
A typical night in this class will include a warm up, some core and midline stabilization, skill work and a short WOD. There is a great deal of building upon your core strength and midline stability.
This class is designed for almost all levels of athletes. If you are brand new to Crossfit and you’re unsure if the class is right for you, always ask a Coach as they will be able to evaluate what classes will be best for you at that time.
